Memoirs of Modern Philosophers
(Review / Memoirs of Modern Philosophers, by Elizabeth Hamilton)
  Monthly Mirror /JAS, 1800
  vol 10 p34

This is an attempt to expose the absurdities of the modern school of philosophy, by shewing the effect of its precepts upon the conduct of its teachers and disciples. We have had many ingenious works upon the same plan - Sir George Warrington - Waldorf - the Vagabond - and, above all the TRAVELS OF ST GODWIN, a production of infinite merit, and abounding with happy and irresistible touches of burlesque. The monster has already received his death-wound, but the author of these Memoirs seems anxious to 'make assurance double sure,' by a repetition of the blow; although, therefore, he has had no hand in the victory, he arrives time enough to participate in the honours of triumph.
