This elegant novel holds out a lesson the most important to the young and unthinking; and the embarrassment of Lambert Byram, arising from precipitating himself into marriage at a very early age, with the orphan JOAN!!! and the anguish of mind, resulting from his ingratitude and guilt towards her, are finely and naturally drawn; and, with their appropriate incidents, form a first volume peculiarly interesting and instructive. In the three which follow, the strength and sense of the fable are uniformly preserved; and with much good will, and high recommendation, we present the captivating JOAN!!! with her innocence, her rectitude, and her sorrows, as a fit companion for a town drawing room, or a garden alcove; when other company, and other amusements are excluded.
