The Unexpected Legacy

The Unexpected Legacy. By Mrs Hunter. Price 9s.

Mrs Hunter may now be considered as a veteran novelist, whose claims have received the legitimate sanction of the public. The 'Unexpected Legacy,' in common with her earlier productions, is distinguished by accurate observation and correct judgment; by sanctity of sentiment, and rectitude of principle. With all these attributes of excellence, we confess we have with difficulty persevered in the perusal of these volumes, not one tale, but many; - a collection of episodes, each separately capable of exciting considerable interest; but so awkwardly combined, as at once to distract and oppress the reader's attention. The materials of which this novel is composed are of no ordinary merit, and we regret that they have not the advantage of a skilful arrangement. [excerpt from review of many works]
