Mrs Robinson is one of those writers who possess more genius than judgment. The plot of her novel is intricate, and the language frequently forcible; but many of her characters are 'monsters that the world ne'er saw,' unnaturally (we could almost say, impossibly) impudent and wicked. The heroine is distinguished by that delicate sensibility which it seems improper to represent as amiable. [complete]
